NEW ORLEANS, Aug. 31 -- Rochelle Montrel, dedicated middle school teacher, thought she should stay in town to prepare for the first day of classes. "We have all this testing now, earlier and earlier," she said Wednesday, "and I wanted to be ready."
Local and federal officials estimated that it could take at least a month to drain all the water that has flowed into the bowl-shaped city, while Mayor Ray Nagin said residents might not be able to return for as long as 16 weeks.
I saw pictures on the news yesterday... Tulane University's football stadium looks like a full bowl of water. It's creepy. The opening of school has, obviously, been delayed until further notice.
For crying out loud, they're only trying to HELP YOU! NEW ORLEANS - The evacuation of the Superdome was suspended Thursday after shots were reported fired at a military helicopter and arson fires broke out outside the arena. No immediate injuries were reported.
